At a Glance
Document type: Test Method.
Edition: active, current edition ISO 7765-2:2025.
Property determined: puncture resistance.
Scope
Specifies a test method for determining the puncture impact properties of a plastic film using instruments for measuring force and deflection.
The impact-penetration test assesses plastic films and thin sheets under an impact stress applied at right angles to the plane of the film, and is applicable when a force-deflection or force-time diagram recorded at nominally constant striker velocity is required.
Applicable to films of up to 1 mm thickness; allows comparison of impact-penetration forces, biaxial deformabilities and energy-absorption capacities.
What the Result Tells You
A test to ISO 7765-2 characterises the puncture resistance of the material or assembly under the conditions the method fixes: specimen form, rate of loading and the environment in which the test is run.
Because the numbers depend on those fixed conditions, a result is only meaningful when the report names the standard, the edition and any options the method allows.

Reading the Designation
ISO 7765-2: the designation as published by the issuing body.
Year suffix: the revision is identified by its year, as in ISO 7765-2-25. A specification that names an edition fixes that edition; a later revision does not apply to an order retroactively.
When a drawing, purchase order or quality procedure cites this document, the test setup, the specimen and the report follow that citation.
