For lighter surface conditioning or fine finishing of previously machined samples, shorter cycles of 2 to 5 minutes are common. Conversely, when processing specimens with rougher surfaces or higher hardness, the polishing time may extend slightly to achieve the required surface uniformity and low residual stress profile.
